Oh Baby! Games launches Oh Baby Kart racing title in SpongeBob universe

Oh Baby! Games is marking its entry into gaming with the launch of its inaugural title, Oh Baby Kart.

Representing a refreshing take on the classic kart racing genre, Oh Baby Kart is billed as an engaging cross-platform multiplayer experience with innovative gameplay mechanics and a collaboration with Paramount Global’s SpongeBob SquarePants intellectual property.

The company said Oh Baby Kart is a cross-platform multiplayer extravaganza, infusing the classic kart racing genre with intricate skill-based gameplay and captivating narratives across diverse maps and modes.

Breaking away from traditional models, Oh Baby Kart operates within a live service framework, designed to prioritize player satisfaction. Initially available for closed beta on Windows and MacOS starting December 14, the game will expand to mobile and console platforms in 2024, the company said.

Teaming up with Paramount Global and Nickelodeon, Oh Baby Kart features iconic SpongeBob SquarePants characters like SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs, among others, as playable racers. These fan-favorite characters will join a varied cast of over 20 characters racing across 26 courses, including a special map set in the fabled Bikini Bottom.

Oh Baby Kart introduces various gameplay features:

It has over 20 unlockable characters, including four limited-time SpongeBob SquarePants racers, and 26 courses available during the closed beta. With hundreds of kart customization options, players can personalize their style.

It also has a racer talent system that enables mid-race stat and ability buffs, empowering players to refine their character’s Grand Prix build. Each racer boasts a unique passive trait and multiple ultimate abilities, charged through kart drifting.

The game also has a live services model. It will have regular content updates with new characters, tracks, and constant balance adjustments ensure a dynamic, evolving gameplay experience.

With a seamless cross-platform matchmaking and in-game social chat system, the game facilitates connected gameplay with friends.

And Oh Baby Kart has 100-plus quests, including boss battles and in-race quests, adding exciting dimensions to the standard Grand Prix and Duo Racing formats.

The game also has competitive tiered leagues based on past performance and an asynchronous player-versus-player mode allowing players to compete against each other’s best times.

Pasteur Tran, CEO of Oh Baby! Games, said in a statement, “I’m thrilled for players to get their hands on Oh Baby Kart. Growing up, I loved the classic kart racers like Mario Kart and Diddy Kong Racing. But I see Oh Baby Kart as a long overdue update to the genre, offering a fully online experience for the next generation of kart racing fans. At Oh Baby! Games, we’re building an entire gaming platform from the ground up, a space that focuses on great games and the imaginative ways modern gamers inhabit those worlds. Beyond Oh Baby Kart, I can’t wait to show everyone what else we’ve got coming down the pipeline.”

Oh Baby Kart is Oh Baby! Games’ maiden release following a successful $6 million seed round earlier this year. The studio has multiple titles nearing completion, all slated for launch on its custom-built Oh Baby! Games launcher, serving as a central hub for the studio’s burgeoning gaming community.

Oh Baby! Games is a global gaming studio dedicated to crafting innovative social games. Led by founder Tran, the team has international game developers with experience on titles like Age of Empires II, Call of Duty, League of Legends, Crazy Fishing VR, and Magic: The Gathering. The studio aims to revolutionize popular gaming genres, focusing on social interaction, creator economy, and competitive ecosystems.
