Zynga and Warner Bros. Pictures are merging two entertainment worlds in an unlikely match. Zynga, a division of Take-Two Interactive, will insert Wonka characters into its Words With Friends 2 game.
It’s part of a promo of the holiday film Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet as the titular character.
This partnership promises players an immersive peek into the magical universe of Wonka through exclusive in-game challenges, rewards, and movie-related content.
The film tells the journey of the world’s greatest inventor, magician, and chocolate maker who ultimately becomes Willy Wonka. Introducing a blend of familiar faces, fresh characters, and inventions, the film unfurls the tale of a young Willy Wonka, brimming with inventive ideas and a mission to transform the world, one delicious bite at a time. The film’s limited-time in-game integration commences today, heralding surprises for Words With Friends 2 players.
Within Words With Friends 2, a customized avatar portraying Chalamet’s Wonka invites players into his whimsical realm for chocolate-themed Friendly Faceoff word games.
Winning two games against this candy maker earns players an exclusive Wonka-themed frame for a player profile. The Word of the Day will be “Chocolatier.”
Yaron Leyvand, executive vice president of games at Zynga, said in a statement, “Zynga is excited to continue our ten-year history of successful collaboration with Warner Bros. by bringing the world of Wonka to players in Words With Friends and other titles across our portfolio. We’re always looking for new ways to bring engaging experiences to our players, and inviting our community to interact with one of the world’s most beloved characters is a perfect golden ticket holiday surprise.”
In tandem, Zynga gamers will encounter special challenges and rewards spanning Wonka’s World of Candy and other Willy Wonka titles.
Cameron Curtis, EVP of worldwide digital marketing at Warner Bros. Pictures, said in a statement, “Wonka is one of the most highly anticipated movies this holiday season. By combining it with Zynga and four of their games, including Words With Friends—an evergreen cultural sensation that has connected millions of players for over a decade—we are creating unique opportunities for engagement that unite gaming and film fans across the big screen and mobile devices.”
Since its launch in 2009, Words With Friends has gained a huge following and Zynga sees the mobile game as a global pop culture phenomenon.
